With more than 63,000 students and 9,000 employees, EPISD plays a vital in the community both economically and educationally. It is the largest employer in El Paso and has an annual operating budget of $403 million.

Community & Govermental Relations VIPS/PIE

Vips LogoThousands of individuals, businesses, civic organizations and agencies donate their time and resources to EPISD on a regular basis. The district has approximately 4,800 Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) who contribute 800,000 hours annually. EPISD also engages the community through its Partners in Education program. More than 2,330 businesses, organizations and individuals are EPISD Partners in Education. The Partners program is designed to enhance, enrich, support, encourage and offer a variety of expertise to our students.

Community Education

The district also provides outreach to the community through the San Jacinto Adult Learning Center, 1216 Olive. The purpose of the Adult Education Program is to provide opportunities for individuals, especially educationally disadvantaged adults. The center works in cooperation with other public and private agencies to secure skills necessary for literacy, General Education Development, job training or job retraining, productive employment, and to be lifelong learners.



Since 1978, the San Jacinto Adult Learning Center has been the headquarters for Adult Education in the El Paso Independent School District. It offers a variety of free classes in English as a Second Language (ESL), Basic Skills, and General Educational Development (GED). For more information, call (915) 533-9072 or go to

EPISD Fund

EPISD also reaches out to the community through the EPISD Fund, a foundation for educational enrichment that provides both grants to classroom teachers and scholarships to students. The EPISD Fund is a non-profit organization of citizens, school officials, and business leaders committed to raising funds, identifying innovative programs, and garnering widespread community support for enriched educational opportunities for EPISD.

Simon Youth Foundation


The Simon Youth Foundation also has provided EPISD with a unique way to reach out to the community and at-risk students. Through the partnership with the Simon Youth Foundation, EPISD offers classes to students at Sunland Park Mall as part of Sunset High School. These students attend small classes and earn credits at their own pace in a store front at Sunland Park Mall.
