Board Trustee District 5
Joel F. Barrios was recently appointed to fill a vacancy in District 5. He represents campuses in the Andress High School feeder pattern. Barrios is a senior officer with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Barrios attended Crockett Elementary, Austin High School, El Paso Community College and City College of Chicago. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy. He also served on the El Paso Parks and Recreation Board, is a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9129 Fourth Degree, Chief Counselor Columbian Squires and VFW Post 8919. Barrios has been a member of the Andress High School Marching Band Booster.
He has received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, United Blood Service Hero of the Year 2005, Son of American Revolution Law Enforcement Achievement Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Law Enforcement.
Barrios was sworn in on Nov. 11, 2008.
