Parent/Community Information

Parent representatives are selected by the principal of each campus to serve on the EPISD GT Parent Advisory Council. Six meetings are held during the school year to share information, seek input and recommendations, and to complete a book study. Professionals in the field of gifted education provide specialized training sessions for the parents. The parents participate in the GT program evaluation process that is reported to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees. Information from the GT program evaluation is analyzed to develop plans for the improvement of services for gifted and talented students.

GT parent night sessions are offered upon request of campus administrators. Advanced Academic Services staff members also provide several sessions on high school courses and college readiness.

Professional members of the community are invited to serve as mentors for students participating in the GT Independent Study courses. Experts in the particular fields of study are also invited to serve as judges of advanced-level products and presentations. Areas of judging include the Science Technology Robotics Expo, the sixth grade Humanities newspaper project, the 4th and 8th grade performance standards projects, and the high school independent study projects.

Strong partnerships with the EPISD Fine Arts Department, Texas Tech University Health Science Center, West Texas Writing Project, and UTEP support advanced-level learning opportunities in the summer.

See Gifted and Talented Summer Programs on the Home Page for more information.
