8-Component Model

El Paso ISD’s program is based an eight component model. This model allows our district to attend to not only the academic knowledge base of its students, but also their social, physical and mental health needs. In other words their Health Literacy. This differentiates us from other programs that focus on just nutrition and physical activity. Although these are paramount concerns, they only address the physical aspect of health whereas issues dealing with social and mental health can also affect a student’s ability to learn and perform.

Statute

All Texas school districts are required by law to implement a coordinated school health program in grades K-8. Click on http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/ED/htm/ED.38.htm#38.013 to review this section; in Title 2, Chapter 38, Section 38.013 of the Texas Education Code.
