District Award for Teacher Excellence

An amendment for the District Award for Teacher Excellence has been approved by the Texas Education Agency. It is recommended that personnel at the sixteen eligible campuses review the performance levels to know what is expected in order to obtain the incentive award. No more modifications will be allowed by TEA and payments to qualified teachers and staff will take place between August through December 2009. Please contact administrators at your campuses for any questions or clarifications.


Sixteen campuses were selected to participate in the District Award for Teacher Excellence (DATE), based on two or more of the following criteria established by TEA:

  1. Rated academically unacceptable in 2007;
  2. Performed lower than the District's average proficiency on TAKS (by subject, grade and/or by campus to be determined by the District;
  3. Received comparable improvement (CI) ratings in the bottom quartile relative to other campus types in the District;
  4. Experienced above average dropout/non-compliance rates relative to other campus types in the District;
  5. Ranked in the bottom half in gains on the Texas Growth Index (TGI);
  6. Ranked within the top quartile of campuses enrolling high percentages of economically disadvantaged students; or
  7. Experienced other academic or non-academic indicators, such as experiencing high rates of teacher migration and attrition, free and reduced lunch, etc.

The following campuses qualified and chose to participate in the grant: Andress, Bassett, Bliss, Bowie, Bradley, Burleson, Burnet, Collins, Cooley, Houston, Morehead, Newman, Roberts, Schuster, Travis, and Vilas.
