Breakfast and Lunch menus
The Texas Department of Agriculture has created a policy to limit access to foods of minimal nutrition value. It also limits the portion sizes of snacks and other foods offered at schools. Please use the nutrition calculator to determine if a prepackaged snack food meets the policy prior to serving it at school. Exceptions are made on a student's birthday and during three selected school days per year.
El Paso ISD has selected December 18, 2009, February 12, 2010 and June 4, 2010 as the days during the 2008-2009 school year. One nutritious snack per day can be offered in the lower grades. Only water, 100% juice or reduced fat milk may be offered as beverages. This policy does not affect individual meals sent from home, only to be consumed by the student and not shared with others.
For more information on the policy and suggestions for nutritious snacks, please see page listed Texas Public School Nutrition Policy page.
