Mission Statement
The GEAR UP Program is a discretionary grant program designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.
Gear Up Facts
GEAR UP Partnerships start no later than the 7th grade. Research shows that students who take challenging coursework in middle school, including algebra, are far more likely to succeed in high school and college.
By working with entire grades and by supporting students throughout the educational pipeline, GEAR UP works to transform schools.
GEAR UP supports students over a period of five or more years, helping them to stay on track for college and often providing them with scholarships when they reach college.
GEAR UP provides equal access to education and educational excellence through concerted partnership efforts on behalf of low-income students.
Program Goals
- Increase academic readiness for postsecondary education.
- Increase awareness of postsecondary educational options, required courses, availability of financial aid, and establish strong partnerships.
- Enhance student achievements and increase access to higher education.
