Mission Statement
The GEAR UP Program is a discretionary grant program designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post–secondary education.
GEAR UP Facts
The GEAR UP Program provides students the academic support and the tools needed to prepare them as they enter college. The Program also strives to expose students and their parents/legal guardians to college requirements and increase their knowledge of college & university opportunities. It provides information and advising on the availability of financial aid, scholarships and high school courses needed to pursue college education and become academically successful.
Program Goals
- Provide tutoring services to increase academic readiness and opportunities for achievements
- Enhance mentoring services to help prevent at-risk behavior
- Encourage parental involvement in support of their child’s future and success
- Offer college literature and accessibility to financial aid information
