Chief Araiza

Chief Victor Araiza, a native of El Paso, Texas holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at El Paso and an Associates Degree of Applied Science in Law Enforcement from El Paso Community College, National Dean’s list (1985-1986). President’s Honor Roll (1985-1986). He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Command College (2006, Department of Homeland Security Threat and Risk Assessment (2004), Office of Domestic Preparedness-Incident Management Unified Command (2004), Sam Houston University Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management- Command Staff Leadership and Writing Effective Dept. Policy, has completed the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education Master Peace Officer Certification/License, Texas Crime Prevention Inspector Certification.

Chief Araiza has more than 21 years of Law Enforcement experience in all facets of law enforcement. Eight years were spent with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff Reserve. Additionally, Chief Araiza has spent 13 years with the EPISD Police Department as a Patrol Officer, Detective, School Resource Officer and Supervisor. In 1997 he was promoted to the position of Police Sergeant responsible for the supervision of 13 - patrol officers, 4 - K9 officers and two motor officers.

Chief Araiza has designed and implemented the School Resource Officer Program, Traffic Enforcement Division and Officer Selection criteria . He also sits on the oral board of selection panels for surrounding law enforcement agencies, Special Response Team Coordinator responsible for special tactical operations. Overall, direct supervision of both police and civilian personnel consisting of 125 employees. Chief Araiza is also a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) certified Police Instructor and TCLEOSE certified Firearms instructor. Collateral duties include Department Training Coordinator, responsible for meeting the training needs of the entire department. Chief Araiza has instructed courses on the following topics: Rapid Rescue Deployment / Active School Shooter, Tactical Firearms, Expandable Baton Certification, Chemical Munitions/ O.C. Certification and Crisis Management. Chief Araiza has also addressed school staff, faculty and school administrators on the topic of School Safety. He assisted in the development and evaluation of crisis management plans, and has participated in several full-scale mock active shooter drills as a controller and coordinator at the request of El Paso City & County Wide Emergency Management. Chief Araiza is a guest instructor at Sul Ross University, Police Officer Academy, El Paso County Sheriff's Department Academy and has provided training for the U.S. Department of Justice on juvenile issues. He was a Criminal Justice Instructor at El Paso Community College from 1998 through 2001. Chief Araiza is the West Texas Regional Director of the School Districts Chiefs of Police Association and a member of the Texas Police Chiefs Association. He is also a member of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEDA).
