- Three Center for Career & Technology students received the Silver Medal for the National Family, Career and Community Leaders of America in the Culinary Arts division. The students were Casey Thompson, Andru Martin and Mike Moya.
- EPISD had seven 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists and two National Achievement Scholarship Program Semifinalists. Five of the National Merit Semifinalists are from Coronado: Karen E. Caylor, Nicole Condie, Kirby E. Haughland, Christopher A. Johnston and Anna M. Wagner. Sylvia D. Carroll is from El Paso High and Morgan E. Cook is from Franklin High School. National Achievement Semifinalists are Wesley I. Walker of Andress High School and Kara E. Holifield of Chapin High School.
- Nancy Haegele, a nurse at Morehead Middle School, was named School Nurse of the Year for Region 19 and Texas Nurse of the Year for the 2005-06 school year. .
- Rexanna Anderson, an eighth grade Humanities teacher at Hornedo Middle School, was named the 2005-06 Texas Council Humanities Outstanding Teacher of the Year.
- Cielo Vista Elementary, Crockett Elementary, Mesita Elementary and Silva Health Magnet were named a state Honor Roll School by the Texas Business and Education Coalition for sustained, whole-school academic excellence.
- The first graduating class of the Connecting Worlds/Mundos Unidos Magnet Program received their diplomas in May 2007 from El Paso High School. The 12 graduating seniors had participated in the program for 10 years.
- The Guillen Middle School chess team took first place at the Texas Scholastic Chess Championship. The 10 students received medals for taking top honors.
- EPISD voters approved a $230 million bond election in May 2007. The bond will pay for five new elementary schools, a new middle school and a new high school. Alamo Elementary School also will be rebuilt. Three elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools will receive new classroom additions.
- EPISD is nearly completed with projects approved from the 2003 Bond Election. Brown Middle School is scheduled to open for the 2007-08 school year. The rebuilt Mesita Elementary will be ready for occupancy in fall 2007.
- Burges High School graduate John “Danny” Olivas climbed aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis June 8 in Cape Canaveral for the STS-117 mission to the International Space Station. Olivas’ dream to walk in space became a reality during the mission. He did two space walks.
- Olivas also attended MacArthur Intermediate and Bonham Elementary. Olivas took flags from all three schools with him on his journey into space. They will be returned to the campuses this fall.
- EPISD named Kay Taggart of Crockett Elementary School and Ophelia DeGuia of Jefferson High School as the 2006-07 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year, respectively.
- EPISD named Ellie Lara, a secretary in Staff Development, and Carmen Cangas, cafeterial manager at Mesita Elementary School as the 2006-07 Educational Support Personnel of the Year.
