• Ross Rebels

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year, as we begin our 58th year.  The last 57 years have been outstanding and we anticipate that this year will be even better.  Why?  We have the best students and faculty!  If you are new to Ross, you will soon discover that you are at a wonderful middle school.  If you are a returning student, you already know this to be true.  Together, all of us will continue the tradition of excellence that is Ross.  We have a mission to continue our quest to become one of the best middle schools in TEXAS.  Therefore, we will continue to be:

    REBELS WITH A CAUSE!

Let us tell you a little about our school.  Ross Middle School is named after Lawrence Sullivan Ross.  He was the 19th Governor of Texas and the first president of the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (now Texas A&M University). After his death, January 3, 1898, the Texas legislature created Sul Ross State University in his honor.

Ross Middle School has a very rich history and an extremely diverse population of students.  The school was built in 1959 under the name Ross Middle but was changed to Ross Junior High in the 1970s.  In 1986, Ross returned to being a middle school.  Now, more than 50 years later, Ross is continuing an impressive legacy.  Ross has been educating students who have chosen great careers.  Here are a few examples:

Estella Casas – KVIA News Anchor

Bill McAtee – CBS Sports Announcer

Colonel James J. Leech – Former Commander, William Beaumont Army Medical Center

Norma Chavez – Former Texas State Representative

Phillip R. Martinez – Federal Judge for the 5th Circuit Court

Aaron Jones- University of Texas at El Pasos All Time Leading Rusher and Current NFL PLayer,  GREEN BAY PACKERS

Keandre Bates- 2017 NCAA Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

In addition many of the staff at Ross Middle School were former students.  This includes Celeste Contreras, counselor, Mary Sanchez, reading teacher, Isabel Novak, science teacher, Diana Beeler, science teacher, and Carmina Hall, counselor.

The student body is composed of a cross section of society. We serve both our local community and Ft. Bliss, including the Sergeant Major’s Academy on Biggs Army Airfield.  The military community is a wonderful asset to our school.  Our sponsoring unit (2-42 ADA) supplies volunteers for many school activities.

Ross Middle School is a place where all students have the opportunity to achieve success both academically, personally and in extra-curricular activities.

The Fine Arts Department (Band, Choir and Orchestra) at Ross Middle School continually receives superior ratings at competitions.
