    WHAT IS A "CHARGER"?

    For centuries dating back thousands of years, horses were used in battles as a means to gain an advantage over an opponent. The “destrier” is the best-known warhorse of the medieval era. It carried knights into battles, tournaments, and jousts. These warhorses were often referred to generically as chargers. The term "charger" was used when the knights felt their destrier warhorse was stronger, quicker and more athletic than the other horses.
