• Welcome!

    A message from our principal.

It is an honor and privilege to serve as the Principal of Douglass Elementary School.  Everyone on our campus is dedicated to uphold our mission statement and provide our students with the best education possible.  We cherish our students and recognize that in our hallways and classrooms are the leaders of tomorrow!

I began my teaching career as a 4th & 5th grade teacher at Zach White and Hughey Elementary.  In 2006, I became the Assistant Principal at Burnett Elementary and Moreno Elementary. In 2008, I became the Assistant Principal at Johnson Elementary School.  I was then appointed as the principal of Douglass Elementary in the 2013-2014 school year.  My commitment to the children of our community has strengthened over the past 9 years that I have been at Douglass.

Douglass Elementary is proud to provide our students in Pre-K through 5th with a Dual Language Program, where our children will learn to read, write, and speak in both English and Spanish.  In the 2021-2022 school year, we expanded our preschool program to include a PRE-K 3 for 3 year olds.

Douglass Elementary School was the first elementary school in EPISD to offer students UIL Activities.  Our students can participate in various UIL teams, such as Chess, Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.  We also participate in the Destination Imagination Competition, where our students placed 2nd in previous school years.

We also offer Gifted & Talented Instruction, Dyslexia support, and our teachers provide ELL strategies to ensure all our students are developing their biliteracy skills.   Every school year we host a Literacy Night, Math and Science Night, Culture Awareness Night and other activities to showcase our students’ amazing work.

Parents and community members are always welcomed at Douglass Elementary School.  All of the teachers and staff at Douglass are fully committed to communicating with parents and caregivers to ensure that our students know they are valued, appreciated and we care about their education.   I believe that teamwork, communication, and support between our staff and parents will demonstrate to our children that we all work together as one team.  WE ARE ONE!
