I want to welcome you to the 2020-21 School Year! We miss you and look forward to seeing you. The administrative team, faculty and staff have been working diligently, and can’t wait to begin this new journey with you. We have made some changes and will utilize some familiar and some new tools that will enable all students to maximize learning.
Our theme for this year expresses our commitment to working together and relying on our strengths as a campus. In April, CIT approved our new vision: Working together to achieve success: Two schools, One Campus, One Heartbeat, Silver Foxes Proud, Jefferson/Silva Strong. This year’s theme is- Foxes United, Jefferson/Silva #One Heartbeat!
This year will be a year we will never forget, and I want to focus on the positive because this is what will help us carry on the tradition of excellence at Jefferson/Silva. I am very excited to announce that Jefferson was accepted to be a P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) campus. We will begin recruitment this fall, and prepare to accept our first cohort in the Fall 2021. Jefferson students will work to earn an associate of arts degree while earning EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certifications. This will create a great opportunity for collegial collaboration with Silva Magnet High School. Also, we will be working with NTN (New Tech Network) College Access Network at both schools. The main focus will be to ensure all students who graduate are, “aware, eligible, and prepared to successfully pursue a range of choices for postsecondary education.” NTN will work to help put systems in place for improving college access for all students by targeting financial access, the application process and test taking strategies. In order to target the upcoming changes in the EOC for Algebra, Biology, and US History, and meet the demands of the new ELAR TEKS, we will move from “Every Day, We Write,” to “Literacy Every Day.” I truly believe that literacy is so important because it is the foundation that will allow for cross-curricular collaboration. Last but not least, the construction of our new multi-story building is set to be completed by Spring 2021, where we will share: a new cafeteria, a state-of-the-art library and a new weight room.
Finally, please know that although we are living in uncertain and difficult times, it is our faith and ability to work together to make a difference that will get us through 2020-21.
