What we do

  • The El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) is committed to providing the best possible education and resources to its students.  In part, EPISD is able to accomplish this goal by providing the District with a strong library program.

    Mission Statement

    Librarians of the EPISD strive to ensure that students and staff are effective users of information by:

    • Providing an atmosphere which encourages the exploration of information resources
    • Nurturing the lifelong appreciation of the written word
    • Acting as careful stewards of resources in order to provide the best possible collections
    • Providing students with activities integrated into the school’s curriculum to foster information literacy skills
    • Implementing current technological advances so that students and staff are effective users of information in all of formats

    Goals

    The primary goals of Library Learning Resources are:

    • To ensure that all students progress towards becoming information literate citizens
    • To introduce a wide variety of information resources that support learning and discovery to all students and teachers
    • To provide support and guidance to all librarians to meet District goals and objectives

    Objectives

    Following are the primary objectives for Library Learning Resources:

    • Support instruction by processing and providing library materials that enhance and reinforce the curriculum
    • Provide access to a wide variety of information resources for students and teachers
    • Provide instruction that encourages lifelong reading and use of information and ideas
    • Guide students to become independent and competent users and creators of information resources
    • Support and assist teachers in effective use of media to enhance instruction
    • Develop and follow procedures based on District guidelines, professional ethics, and best practices in school library programs
