Districtwide Educational Improvement Council (DEIC)

It is that time of year to consider applying for a candidate position in the Districtwide Educational Improvement Council (DEIC). Remember this is a great opportunity to represent your grade-level/campus/subject area in the district-level planning and decision-making committee. The DEIC shall advise the Board/ Superintendent in establishing and reviewing the District Improvement Plan, as well as the District’s educational goals, performance objectives, and major District-wide classroom instructional programs.

The Districtwide Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) has positions open for a two-year term beginning August 2025. In order to satisfy the composition requirements of the Districtwide Educational Improvement Council (DEIC), elections will be held for the VACANT postions listed below.

Applications for the vacant positions in the DEIC open on Monday, April 7, 2025. The deadline to apply has been extended to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. An on-line election for campus teachers, campus non-teaching professionals and district professionals to vote will then be held from Monday, May 5, 2025, to Monday, May 12, 2025.

Policy BQA(LOCAL) calls for the Districtwide Educational Improvement Council to be composed of members who shall represent campus-based professional staff, District-level professional staff, parents, businesses, and the community. Classroom teachers shall comprise at least two-thirds of the total professional staff representation on the council. An individual who qualifies for a position can nominate themselves and submit their application form. 

Four to six DEIC meetings are generally scheduled per year, including one public meeting.  For additional details on the previous and current DEIC meetings please see: DEIC Main Webpage

DEIC election and application procedures are identified in policies BQA (REGULATION), please review this policy ahead of applying. The policy contains specific requirements related to applying and running as a candidate. Additional policies related to Planning and Decision Making Process: District Level are BQA (LEGAL), (LOCAL).

PROCEDURES

No more than one teacher from each school shall be elected to the council. BQA (LOCAL). Only certified full-time teachers whose teaching assignment qualifies them for the named positions above qualify as candidates (i.e. High School Math teachers qualify for the High School Math DEIC position). Interested applicants must complete their applications on or before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025, by clicking here.

Applicant requirements include the following:

  1. DEIC application

  2. A digital photograph

  3. 50-word campaign statement (Describe the qualities you possess which would enable you to make contributions to the Districtwide Education Improvement Council.)

Preparation and Voting

  1. The DEIC election is held online.

  2. The on-line ballots can be accessed beginning on Monday, May 5, 2025, by connecting to the staff portal login at EPISD-Interact and clicking on the DEIC election-voting link. Voting ends at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025. 

  3. Only professionals in the level/ area with a vacancy may vote for a candidate seeking to represent their respective grade level/area.

  4. Voting is anonymous.

  5. Employees may vote anytime, anywhere by by connecting to the staff portal login at EPISD-Interact and clicking on the DEIC election-voting link.

  6. The applicant with the most votes in each category wins the election. (* No more than one teacher from each school shall be elected to the council. BQA (LOCAL)

Election results will be posted online.

A council year is from September through August.  Representatives shall serve staggered two-year terms and shall be limited to two consecutive terms on the DEIC.
