What We Do
We can audit anything, but not everything
There is a common misconception that auditors only conduct financial audits or investigate reports received through the Hotline. The role of El Paso ISD's Internal Audit has evolved over the years, and the scope of our work has expanded to meet the needs of the District.
In the last four years, Internal Audit has conducted assurance and advisory engagements to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of El Paso ISD's governance, risk management, and control processes in business services, operations, information technology, academics, student data/programs, administrative services, etc.
Given the size and complexity of El Paso ISD, it would require an incredibly large audit department to audit all the areas and processes in the District annually. It makes more sense to allocate Internal Audit’s limited resources based on risk. Our annual Audit Plans are designed to ensure Internal Audit examines areas with the most significant exposure to risks that could affect El Paso ISD’s ability to accomplish its strategic priorities, goals, and objectives. To develop the Audit Plan, we use a systematic process that helps us:
Make the best use of Internal Audit resources,
Generate buy-in from El Paso ISD management/leadership,
Supports El Paso ISD’s success, and
Meet the Board’s mandate for Internal Audit.
