SAT

  • Overview

The SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to determine admissions decisions. The purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school student's readiness for college, providing colleges with one common data point to compare all applicants.

EPISD pays the SAT School Day exam fees for all EPISD juniors (11th) who take the SAT in March (date below).

Seniors who wish to take/retake the SAT may register here. We recommend reviewing the Fee Waiver Student Brochure to determine if you can take the test for free.

    Benefits of taking the SAT

SAT School Day gives students the opportunity to take the SAT on a weekday—instead of a weekend—in the comfort of their own school. Taking the SAT opens doors, as four-year colleges require students to submit an admission test score as part of their application. Some colleges and educational organizations award scholarship money to students based in part on SAT scores. Furthermore, it helps colleges find students when they opt in to the Student Search Service when they register for the SAT.

    What is a good score?

In 2019, the average SAT score was 1050. Any score above that would be above average and perfectly acceptable for many colleges. A score of 1350 would put the student in the top 10% of test takers and help make their application competitive at more selective schools.

    College Readiness Benchmarks

Students are considered college ready (meaning they can enroll in a college-credit bearing course without remediation) when their SAT section scores meet both the Math and the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing benchmarks.

    • Students who earn a minimum of 480 in the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) assessment of the SAT shall be exempt from both the Reading and Writing sections of the TSIA2.
    • Students who earn a minimum of 530 in the Math assessment of the SAT shall be exempt from the Math section of the TSIA2.
