Jefferson Silva community plants 23 trees to honor victims of Aug. 3 tragedy
Jefferson and Silva students, staff and alumni planted 23 trees near the football field Friday morning both honoring the lives of those lost in the Aug. 3 tragedy while also beautifying their school. A special tree lined up with the 50-yard line in memory of alumnus Arturo Benevidez.

Orientations help new, transitioning students get ready for school year
Students new to EPISD or those making a transition to a new campus got a chance to familiarize themselves with their new homes away from home in a series of orientations and camps designed to get them ready for the start of the 2021-22 school year. First Day of School is Monday, Aug. 2.

Administrators at Bowie High on Monday took teachers on a tour of Segundo Barrio to give them a glimpse into the lives of the students they will serve in the coming year. The tour is meant to encourage engagement with students and their families.

EPISD to discuss safe return to schools with community
EPISD parents will have another opportunity to learn more about the reopening of schools and the start of in-person instruction for the upcoming 2021-22 school year during a live session where administrators will discuss the plans for safety and instruction. Summer camp helps launch Franklin P-TECH program
Students in the Franklin High School Medical Sciences P-TECH program that is launching this fall got an early start to their training during a hands-on camp that ended last week. This was the unofficial kick off to the innovative P-TECH program that also will open at El Paso, Coronado and Jefferson high schools this fall.

EPISD adds third Safe School Reopening Community Meeting on Thursday afternoon
EPISD will have an additional community meeting to discuss with parents and receive input on the safe reopening of schools for the upcoming 2021-22 academic year. The meetings also will discuss the District’s efforts to reverse pandemic-related student learning loss. The meetings will be conducted via Zoom at noon and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 15.
