Texas Tech program will help Silva students become RNs
The first cohort of the BSN Pipeline program at Silva visited the Texas Tech University Health Science Center Hunt School of Nursing last week to get a glimpse of what is to come for them. The program is a partnership with Texas Tech that will allow students to earn their nursing degree just 16 months after high-school graduation.

UTEP, EPISD teacher residency partnership expanded to five campuses
The Miner Teacher Residency Program that began in EPISD three years ago at Mesita Elementary and Austin High has been expanded to three new campuses this year: Newman Elementary, Tom Lea Elementary and Terrace Hill Middle/Collins Elementary. The partnership places education majors with experienced teacher for the entire school year.

'Letters to Strangers' helps Silva students fight off mental health stigma
Teens at Silva Health Magnet started the Letters to Strangers El Paso Chapter during the pandemic to help spread awareness and coping mechanisms among teens dealing with mental health issues. The program, which consists of writing letters and spreading information and awareness, hopes to end the stigma surrounding mental health.

hawn Mena, the principal at Franklin High School and EPISD’s Interim Assistant Superintendent of High Schools, has been recognized by the Yale Office of Undergraduate Admissions as the recipient of the 2021 Yale Educator Award.
