Bowie students help distribute luminarias for Aug. 3 remembrance events
El Pasoans will mark the anniversary of the Aug. 3 attack on the city this weekend by lighting luminarias at home. This week, students from Bowie High School helped distribute the luminaria kits at Guillen Middle School.

Help El Paso High teacher land cover of Ms. Health & Fitness magazine
El Paso High teacher and fitness guru Clarissa Marquez needs your help to land on the cover of Ms. Health & Fitness magazine and collect a check for $20,000. Marquez and fit women from throughout the world are competing online for the chance to be featured in the magazine and win the cash. So far, Marquez is in good shape holding steady at fourth place and expects to advance.

Application for 2020-21 EPISD free and reduced-priced meals now open
The application for free and reduced-priced meals in EPISD for the 2020-2021 school year is now available online for parents to fill and submit. For the first time, the District is going paperless in the application process and asking parents to fill out the application completely online.

Coronado FCCLA team video places nationally
A three-student team from Coronado who developed a promotional video to increase awareness and interest in the FCCLA organization placed nationally and won a gold medal during this month’s virtual Students Taking Action with Recognition event. Congrats T-Birds!

Recent Coronado graduate Hannah Tuttle took second place in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking and earned fifth place for Prepared Public Speaking out of 312 participants at the virtual, Zoom-based Texas FFA State Convention last week.

EPISD to comply with new city order, delay in-person instruction until Sept. 8. Virtual instruction for all EPISD students will begin on Aug. 17
The City of El Paso Department of Public Health released new orders requiring school buildings to remain closed until at least Sept. 7. In compliance with the order, EPISD will begin the school year virtually on Aug. 17.
