Delta Academy students builds Thanksgiving parade float
The students at the Delta Academy, EPISD's court-appointed center for education, have once again helped build an impressive float for the Thanksgiving Day parade. The 'Game of Thrones' float will feature a giant dragon and even a welded version of the Iron Throne.

Trans-Border art installation helps Bowie students connect with peers in Juarez
Bowie students connected with high-school students from Ciudad Juárez this week to share stories and messages of support using Border Tuner, the light and sound installation that has electrified El Paso for days. The installation is an art project that uses flood lights and microphones to connect people on both sides of the border. The El Paso side of the piece is housed at Bowie.

Happy Feet: Richardson student organizes sock drive for the homeless
Sixth-grader Evan Lopez hopes to collect hundreds of pairs of clean, new socks for the homeless this season. His sock drive is in third year and has now expanded from Nixon Elementary to Richardson Middle.

Hiring Heroes: EPISD gives soldiers valuable work experience
Retiring Army Sgt. Minwoo Wang is the latest soldier to participate in EPISD's partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program. The program allows soldiers transition into the civilian workforce by training in different jobs throughout the District.

Grant helps expand college readiness at Andress
A grant from the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Math and Science Initiative will help expand the Advanced Placement offerings at Andress High School to get students to be better prepared for college. The grant was announced on Monday in front of students and military personnel.

Nearly 30 EPISD student athletes were selected to participate in the upcoming draft for the 28th annual Greater El Paso Football Showcase All-Star Game. The draft is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 24, at Eastwood High School. Congratulations!

Students from Coronado and Kohlberg last week came together last week to bring to life a writing project as part of the Young Authors Unite Program. The younger students told their life stories and the older ones created them into books with illustrated covers. This is part of a project designed to encourage writing among students.
