EPISD summer meal program to wind down starting this week
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT -- Aug. 5, 2020) — The EPISD summer meal program that has provided free breakfast and lunch to thousands of children will begin to wind down this week and stop food distribution on Aug. 14 as the 2020-2021 school year begins.
All meal distribution sites at elementary and middle schools will cease operations on Friday, Aug. 7. Meals will continue to be offered at 4 high-schools through Friday, Aug. 14.
“This summer, EPISD was able to provide free breakfast and lunch to thousands of children who otherwise may not have had access to healthful food during the break,” said Laura Duran, EPISD’s Director of Food & Nutrition Services. “This year, this service was even more critical because of the COVID pandemic that has impacted so many families financially.”
Duran said all summer meal verification cards will be honored at the 4 high school distribution sites from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug 10, Wednesday, Aug .12, and Friday, Aug. 14, at the following sites:
-
Andress High School, 5400 Sun Valley
-
Bowie High School, 801 S. San Marcial
-
Chapin High School, 7000 Dyer
-
Franklin High School,900 N. Resler
EPISD will begin its traditional meal program when school starts on Aug. 17. To learn more about EPISD’s free and reduced-priced meal program visit the Food & Nutrition Services webpage here.
