¡Bienvenidos! CCTE welcomes back first group of EPISD students for in-person instruction
(CENTER FOR CAREER & TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION -- Sept. 22, 2020) — A selected number of students enrolled in CCTE dual-credit programs returned for in-person instruction on Monday – the first batch of EPISD students to return to campus after nearly seven months of closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The school – which serves high-school students from throughout the county with career and technology courses – welcomed about 140 students who were required to return to the classroom in order to meet college credit or program certification mandates.
Students in the dual-credit automotive, diesel, culinary arts and electrical trades programs qualified to return to campus this week.
This was the second phase of the EPISD School Reopening Plan, which will conclude on Oct. 26 with the return of all students to selected in-person instruction back to their home campuses. Distance learning through EPISD@Home will continue for parents who opted to keep their children at home.
“We are beyond excited to see our kids again. More importantly, the kids are even more excited to be back,” said CCTE Principal Matthew Farley. “We are following the strict health guidelines to make sure our classrooms, labs, cafeteria and open spaces are safe as possible during these difficult times.”
Students and staff were instructed on safety protocols that will be in place until further notice. Those include temperature checks before entering campus, mandatory face-masks, social distancing and new rules for class transitions, school-bus rides and meal times.

The next phase of the reopening plan for the District will continue on Oct. 19 when campuses will welcome special-education students as well as students in grades pre-kinder through second whose parents opted for on-campus learning.
After that, sixth-graders and high-school freshmen who picked in-person instruction will return for in-person instruction the week of Oct. 19.
The remaining students whose parents opted for in-person instruction will return to campuses the week of Oct. 26.
