Richardson IB students build model rollercoasters
(RICHARDSON MIDDLE SCHOOL —June 10, 2021) -- Richardson sixth graders are wrapping up their school year by designing model rollercoasters inspired by international landmarks they have studied.
The students first selected a country and designed a backpack they would use traveling through that country. The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme project then ended with the creation of rollercoasters made of cardboard and popsicle sticks.
Sixth grader Winnelle Maxwell’s inspiration was Sacré Coeur in Paris.
“I chose France because it’s been dream of me and my family to go there,” she said. “I liked having creative liberty to add to a beautiful landmark, to show people something so beautiful and have fun with it with my friends.”
Zaniyah Stevens took on the Castillo San Felipe in Cartagena, Colombia. The country and landmark piqued her interest because she has friends in the South American nation.
“I was very interested in their culture, so I decided to learn more about it,” she said.
