El Paso ISD names 2 new elementary school principals

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – Dec. 15, 2022) – The El Paso Independent School District named Mily Gamez-Alvarado as principal of Stanton Elementary School and Elaine Vasquez as principal of Barron Elementary School. Both will begin their principalships at their respective campuses Jan. 3, 2023.

Gamez-Alvarado was promoted to principal of Stanton Elementary from assistant principal at Austin High School. Gamez-Alvarado also served as a campus testing coordinator and English teacher at Coronado High School. She began her career with El Paso ISD as an elementary school tutor at Hillside Elementary School.

Gamez-Alvarado earned her bachelor of arts degree in English and American Literature and a master’s degree in administrative leadership from UTEP.

Vasquez was promoted to principal of Barron from assistant principal at Park Elementary School. She also has served as a testing coordinator, teacher and literacy coach at Guillen Middle School. Before becoming an educator, Vasquez worked as an assistant branch manager at Inter National Bank and a trust administrator at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.

She has a bachelor’s degree in finance and bilingual education from UTEP and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Sul Ross State University.
