El Paso's top speller still in the hunt at National Spelling Bee
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT -- May 29, 2019) — El Paso Regional Spelling Bee winner and Lincoln Middle student Penny Moore correctly spelled “Manhattanese” to advance to the next round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee on Monday.
Today, she is among the 562 spellers competing in the national spelling bee in Washington, D.C. this week and among the 519 who advanced to Round Three.
“Being in the presence of some of the world’s best spellers and spelling judges felt amazing and it was an accomplishment to make it even that far and have the chance to increase my vocabulary,” she said.
