(BOWIE HIGH SCHOOL -- May 28, 2019) — The Osos Orgullosos of Bowie High School closed the 2019 graduation schedule Tuesday evening with a ceremony marked with the trademark spirit that has brought notoriety to the South Side school for decades.

A total of 305 graduates walked across the stage at the Don Haskins Center to receive their high-school diploma in front of family, friends and loved ones.

Principal Francisco Ordaz made special note of the support the students received over the past 12 years.

“You did not get to this ceremony alone,” he said. “Your parents, mamas y papas, abuelitos y abuelitas, have all been there to support you.”

Bowie’s Class of 2019 was lead by valedictorian Issac Castorena, who also was the valedictorian of the Center for Career & Technology Education; and salutatorian Kimberly Martinez.  In total, the class received $1.5 million in scholarships and funding for post-secondary education.

Notable awards for the class include three recipients of the Dreamers Scholarship and a student Board of Directors member for GECU.

The school also recognized student Alexis Guerrero whose GPA placed her among the top 10 percent of the class despite having been a home-bound student for much of the year.
