El Paso ISD names new deputy superintendent of academics

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – Aug. 18, 2022) – El Paso ISD has named veteran administrator Dr. Marta Carmona as deputy superintendent for academics.

Carmona recently led the Socorro Independent School District as interim superintendent. She was a bilingual educator, bilingual instructional facilitator, assistant principal and principal at both the elementary and secondary levels before becoming the internal auditor for curriculum and instruction in SISD.

“Dr. Carmona comes to El Paso ISD with a wealth of instructional knowledge and experience,” said superintendent Diana Sayavedra. “We welcome her and look forward to her leadership.”

Carmona will lead instructional departments and school leadership and oversee the development of educational programs, plans for staff development, and instructional services for all students in the El Paso ISD. Carmona will provide support for long-range plans for program development and curriculum redesign which will provide students with a richer instructional learning experience in classrooms districtwide. 

Carmona received her bachelor of science degree in interdisciplinary studies from UTEP, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Sul Ross University and a doctorate degree in learning and organizational change from Baylor University.
