(TRANSMOUNTAIN EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL -- June 4, 2022) — El Paso ISD kicked off Day 2 of the 2022 Graduation Season this morning at UTEP’s Magoffin Auditorium with 93 TMECHS Mavericks receiving diplomas.
Members of the Class of 2022, which earned $3.7 million in scholarships, also received associates of science degrees while completing their high school education.
Like years past, 100 percent of the class successfully completed their graduation requirements. The class is led by valedictorian Kiana Castillo and salutatorian Joel Vargas. A common theme among the student speeches focused on the hard work necessary to thrive at TMECHS.
“As you know TMECHS is not an ordinary high school, so it really takes a dedicated and hardworking student to succeed,” Castillo said. “Its advanced curriculum challenges even the most intelligent and talented students to work hard. I have personally found the saying, ‘hardwork beats talent when talent isn’t working hard enough’ to hold true for TMECHS.”
Vargas also offered advice to his classmates, knowing that their TMECHS education set the foundation for success.
“We all exceeded our own expectations, but our journey is not over,” Vargas said. “We still have many more expectations to set for ourselves and surpass them.”
He concluded his remarks by quoting actor Lin Manuel Miranda: “My dear terrified graduates, you are about to enter the most uncertain and thrilling period of our lives.”
