Jefferson/Silva close out EPISD graduation ceremonies with 419 receiving diplomas

(JEFFERSON/SILVA HIGH SCHOOL -- June 8, 2022) — The El Paso ISD Graduation Season came to a close Wednesday with 419 Jefferson/Silva Health Magnet seniors receiving diplomas at the Don Haskins Center.

The Class of 2022 earned a combined total of $12.9 million in total scholarships. The scholarship dollars include two military appointments: Richelle Ntumy, U.S. Military Academy West Point for $425,000; and Peter Koch, U.S. Merchant Marines Academy for $290,000. Many Silva seniors also earned certifications that will allow them to enter the healthcare industry upon graduation.

Jefferson’s Class of 2022 is led by valedictorian and All-Jefferson Girl Ariana De La Cruz and salutatorian Martha Ximena Rios-Lozano. Silva is led by valedictorian Sofia Hernandez and salutatorian David Chaowei Bai. All-Jefferson Boy is Carlos Palomino. All-Silva Boy and Girl are Carlos Araujo and Raven Macias.

De La Cruz’s remarks centered around a cinematic theme, weaving in memories and ending with credits to those who supported her along the way.

“In our lives, we will make mistakes, experience change, and encounter the unpredictable, just as I have,” De La Cruz said. “We will have our moments to start over, backtrack, reevaluate, improve, and begin again, all in order to live the story that was written out for you.”

Hernandez reminisced about her time at Silva, and how it would lead to her and her classmates' success after high school.

“We’ve all traveled a similar journey to get here today. We’ve all tripped up the stairs at Silva at least once while rushing to class. And most of you have pulled all-nighters trying to finish the assignments we so frequently procrastinate on,” Hernandez said. “Being here on this day comes with many sacrifices. All these experiences have allowed us to take this next step towards a future that we can all be proud of. It’s hard to put into words all the things we’ve accomplished, but I can say that every second has been worth it.”
