A Message From Diana Sayavedra

Dear EPISD,

We are officially on holiday break! There are so many things to look forward to in the coming weeks. Spending time with family and friends, doing the things you enjoy, and relishing the heartfelt moments that make life joyous. I hope all of you get to experience the warmth of the holidays as you welcome the new year in your homes or while traveling to meet loved ones. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

With my one-year anniversary as superintendent just around the corner, I am prompted to reflect on El Paso ISD’s progress and to envision our future. The district is taking a dramatic step forward with its recently adopted Hopes and Dreams Realized 2022-2025 strategic blueprint. This document – which was developed with input from campuses, community members and in conjunction with the Board of Trustees – charts a course for the next three years. It will ensure we inspire and empower our students to thrive. We are committed to partnering with our families to uphold the highest standards to provide inclusive and fair learning experiences that support the whole child. Education is the opportunity equalizer, and I believe that, together, we can create exceptional opportunities for students to change the trajectory of their lives – and their families’ lives – through education.

I encourage you to learn more about Hopes and Dreams Realized on our website at episd.org/strategicblueprint.

In the more immediate future, we will celebrate some of our exceptional student-athletes and fine arts performers.

On Saturday, Dec. 17, 26 football players from throughout the district will compete in the Greater El Paso Football Showcase All-Star Game at the Socorro ISD Student Activities Complex. They will be joined by cheerleaders, dance team members, mascots and more. Next month, 60 high school students who qualified for All-Region Texas Music Educators Association Band will compete in the area competition Jan. 6-7 in Midland. In addition, Irvin High School placed eight band students into Region Band for the Association of Texas Small School Bands and qualified seven for area auditions, which will take place Jan. 7 in Levelland, Texas. Congratulations to our performers and players!

I’m looking forward to experiencing my first holiday season in the Sun City. I’ve already seen signs of the special spirit that El Paso infuses into this time of year. That only makes me more eager to welcome my family to El Paso for the holidays. It will be the first time they spend an extended amount of time here since the day I was named superintendent, and I look forward to showing them all the great things this beautiful city – my new home – has to offer.

Sincerely,Diana SayavedraSuperintendent of Schools
