Pre-K Requirements

PreK4 (Half-day AM or PM)

 

  • PreK4 Eligibility - Students must be 4 years old on September 1 and meet one of the state eligibility guidelines found at the end of this document.

 

  • PreK4 Class sizeLimit of 22 with a recommended student-to-teacher ratio of 11:1 (see Texas Public Prekindergarten Class Size and Student-to-Teacher Ratio Study, 2016). When AM or PM session exceeds 22, these are the options:
  1. Student may enroll in a PreK4 classroom at the nearest campus that has space.
  2. The campus applies for a waiver.
  3. Waiting lists are not utilized in PreK4.

 

  • PreK4 Curriculum – Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines are the District PreK4 curriculum, utilizing STEAM instruction (90 minutes English/90 minutes Spanish in Dual Language Sections).

Universal PreK4 (Half-day AM or PM)

 

  • Universal PreK4 Eligibility - Students must be 4 years old on September 1.

 

  • Universal PreK4 Class size – 40 spaces are allotted to each Universal PreK4 campus. The class limit is 22 with a recommended student-to-teacher ratio of 11:1 (see Texas Public Prekindergarten Class Size and Student-to-Teacher Ratio Study, 2016).

 

  • Universal PreK4 Campuses - Available only at these campuses: Barron, Bond, Cielo Vista, Crockett, Kohlberg, Fannin, MacArthur, Schuster
