Bowie Culinary Arts to distribute Thanksgiving meals to those spending holiday alone
(BOWIE HIGH SCHOOL -- Nov. 20, 2020) — The Bowie Culinary Arts Program knows this year’s Thanksgiving festivities may harder for some people who can’t get together with their families to celebrate because of the pandemic, so they want to make sure no one misses out on turkey and pie.
The students, who also operate the popular Oso Good Food Truck, are launching their “We Want To Be Your Family” initiative aimed at distributing plates of food to anyone having to spend Thanksgiving in isolation this year.
“If anyone knows of someone who has to spend Thanksgiving alone, we want make sure they have a plate of food to enjoy during the holiday,” said Chef Christopher Puga, the culinary art teacher at Bowie. “We will be able to provide a little bit of joy through food to these individuals who otherwise would probably not have a Thanksgiving meal to enjoy.”
The students will safely cook the food and then plates will be assembled and distributed. Each plate will include turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes, a bread roll, pumpkin pie and even a drink.
