Mobile Oilfield Learning Unit brings hands-on, energy education to El Paso ISD campuses
(El Paso Independent School District – Oct. 31, 2022) – Students at two El Paso ISD campuses will learn about STEM education and careers when the Mobile Energy Learning Unit (MELU) – an exhibit made possible through a partnership between Marathon Petroleum Corporation’s El Paso Refinery and the Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA) – began a weeklong tour of El Paso on Monday, Oct. 31, at Hawkins Elementary School.
The MELU is a traveling exhibit that teaches students about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and the many careers available in the energy industry through hands-on, educational activities related to the energy sector. After its stint at Hawkins on Monday, the unit will travel to Ross Middle School on Thursday, Nov. 3.
The MELU is a $1.2 million engaging traveling exhibit that features six self-contained learning stations with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum-based, hands-on activities about the energy and the technologies and sciences involved with the oil and natural gas industry. TXOGA and Marathon Petroleum’s El Paso Refinery are teaming up with the Oilfield Energy Center to promote STEM education and careers in the oil and natural gas industry.
