Chapin students win national engineering competition
(CHAPIN HIGH SCHOOL -- July 17, 2019) — A team of four Chapin High School students earned a national championship at the 2019 National Technology Student Association Conference competition in the Washington, D.C., area earlier this month.
The team made up of sophomores Cesar Meza, Andres Iglesias, Gael Moran and junior Nicholas Dudu won first place nationally in the Engineering Design category. The team won for their Solar Silk design that created a practical and cost-effective use for solar energy around the home.
Meza also competed in the Extemporaneous Speech category and earned a fourth-place in nationals. In this category, participants verbally communicate their knowledge of technology and science subjects by giving a speech.
Chapin students competed nationally in the following categories: On-Demand Video, which asks participants to produce a 60-second video onsite during the conference; Technology Problem Solving, which asks participants to develop a solution to a problem that is presented during the conference; and Technology Bowl, a quiz show-style competition testing technology knowledge.
Congratulations to Chapin’s Technology Student Association for an outstanding year at the national level!
Another EPISD team made up of two Hornedo Middle School students also won a national title at the conference for their microcontroller design of a robot.
