Approximately 15,000 students in El Paso are expected to tune in. This expansion is one of a number of steps McDonald’s is taking this year to do more in order to support Hispanic students as they navigate the pandemic’s impact on education.
In its eighth year, the tour will bring motivational speakers, development workshops, and resources to high school students, parents, counselors and teachers to help motivate students to continue their education.
New this year, workshops have been added specifically designed to reach counselors, teachers, and parents. Workshops for students and educators will be conducted in English and parent workshops will be available in both in English and Spanish.
Student sessions will feature host and moderator Julissa Calderon, who recently gained popularity and recognition among a young Latinx audience for her portrayal of Yessika Castillo in Netflix’s “Gentefied” and her role as a content creator and producer for Buzzfeed’s Pero Like. Youth engagement group CoolSpeak, returns to the tour to motivate and inspire students to achieve their full potential by sharing their own personal life experiences. Immediately after each student workshop, Calderon and CoolSpeak will “hangout” with interested participants for an intimate Q&A session.
The McDonald’s HACER® Education Tour is one of the many initiatives that are part of the HACER® National Scholarship program. The McDonald’s HACER® National Scholarship has awarded more than $31.5 million in scholarships to date and helped 17,060 students since its founding in 1985.

This year, McDonald’s has committed to do more to support Hispanic students through the HACER® National Scholarship in a number of ways.
