EPISD Student Spotlight: Abby Morales, Brown Middle
(BROWN MIDDLE SCHOOL -- March 29, 2021) — Brown eighth grader Abby Morales continues to promote her school, even when learning remotely. The dedicated student is a health nut and keeps challenging herself by engaging in the often-grueling Bulldog Strength and Conditioning workouts. The future Franklin Cougar is our next middle schooler to be featured in our on-going EPISD Student Spotlight feature. Find out how Abby is staying motivated and challenging herself this year.
EPISD: How are you staying motivated and involved in school during the pandemic?
ABBY MORALES: I am staying motivated and involved is by taking time out of each day to relax and take a break from the laptop and anything technology. But one thing that is especially keeping me motivated is my new baby doggy, Isabella. She keeps me on my toes or should I say paws.
EPISD: What challenges have you faced because of the pandemic and how have you overcome them?
AM: A challenge that I have faced during this pandemic is the anxiety I was just so scared to go out or to be alone. By overcoming this I started to work out and meditate daily.
EPISD: What made you join Bulldog Strength &Conditioning and how has it helped you get through the pandemic?
AM: I have always like to work out and be active so when I heard they were going to start this program I was super excited and definitely wanted to try this out. It helped me build my strength and try something while doing it in the comfort of my home. I log into the meeting every single day and turn on my camera and workout even when the workout is a physical challenge.
EPISD: What have you learned from doing Bulldog S&C?
AM: What I have learned from S&C is not just working out but all the healthy foods and what is good and not good for you. Just knowing how your body works and how all the food helps your body grow is just interesting to learn.
EPISD: What does it mean for you to be an Ambassador for your school?
AM: Being Ambassador for my school shows how all my hard work on being an amazing student is really showing off. I love to help others and knowing that I don’t have limits is just a thrilling experience.
EPISD: What do you like to tell visitors about your school?
AM: I would like to tell them that Brown Middle School is all about family. We are always open to meet everyone and anyone. We will welcome you and love for you to share everything you like whatever that is – your favorite food, songs, games, or even your culture.
EPISD: How have you participated as an Ambassador virtually?
AM: I have done virtual meetings for the new incoming sixth graders to answer questions about Brown. I have also joined meetings for teachers to help them understand a student's point of view on how we are feeling in class and what they could add or help their students.
EPISD: What is the first thing you plan to do when the pandemic is over?
AM: I definitely want to travel and visit my family in Albuquerque, then hang out with my best friend Lindsay and go out with my other family members who are located here. To top it off, I’d like to go out and eat out at my favorite restaurant which is Texas Roadhouse.
EPISD: What high school will you be going to? Are you doing a magnet or special program, if so which one?
AM: I will be attending Frankin High School. Hopefully, I will get into a business class which is taken at the magnet center.
EPISD: Anything you’d like to add?
AM: I want everyone to know they are not alone, and we can get through this. Just take a deep breath and everything will be all right. I would also like to thank Angela Word who is my social studies, English teacher, and UIL coach, my coach Jordan Sonora for pushing me in class, and my NJHS coach Herlinda Torres and former math teacher.
