Bond 2016 project kicks off at Irvin High
(IRVIN HIGH SCHOOL -- March 11, 2019) — Music, food and excitement all marked the official start of construction of the more than $51 million in upgrades and renovations that will turn the Northeast campus into a modern learning facility.
Students, teachers, trustees, alumni and community members gathered in front of the symbolic Rocket on Roanoke Drive to turn over the dirt and give construction crews the go-ahead to start the work that is part of the 2016 Bond program.
“This is a very important day in the history of Irvin High School,” Principal MaryAnna Giba said. “Today marks the beginning of a project that will help us better meet the educational goals of our students.”
Included in the Bond 2016 construction project at Irvin are:
- Construction of a new building with administrative offices and special-education classrooms.
- A new 300-seat theater with a UIL stage.
- Renovation of classroom buildings, including HVAC upgrade to refrigerated air, new electrical systems and the rehabilitation of existing classrooms.
- A new façade to classroom wing facing Roanoke Drive.
- Security improvements.
Completion date for Bond work is scheduled for the fall of 2021.
Bond 2016 projects at Irvin were designed by the firm of Dekker Perich Sabatini and the general contractor is HB Construction.
Bond 2016 construction already has begun at Austin High School, Crockett Elementary School, El Paso High School, Andress High School, the new Torres Elementary School in Northeast El Paso and the new Don Haskins PreK-8 school in the Upper Valley.
Other bond funds have been used to complete athletic upgrades throughout the District, install new playgrounds at elementary schools in all parts of EPISD and distribute nearly 10,000 Apple laptops to students in middle and high schools.
