EPISD Council of PTAs celebrates successful school year
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT -- May 25, 2018) — The EPISD Council of PTAs installed new officers and presented awards to campus PTAs May 19 at the Wyndham Hotel during its annual luncheon.
Texas Field Service Representative Beth Crymes officially installed president Dina Carrington and the following vice presidents: Tanya Meza, Andress/Irvin representative; Laura Soto, Austin/ Chapin representative; Andrea Carrizal, Bowie/El Paso representatives; Christina Payan, Burges/ Jefferson representatives; and Victoria Goldman, Coronado/ Franklin representatives.
Award winners for 2017-18 are
- Council of PTA scholarship recipients: Maria Tagikawa and Brook Studdard from Coronado High School. Both students received a $500 scholarship.
- The Superintendent Honor Roll Award winners, given to PTAs with 100 percent participation, are: Roberts, Cielo Vista, Tom Lea, White, Western Hills, Lundy and Polk elementary schools; Terrace Hills Middle School; and TMECHS PTSA, MJ Lundy, Western Hills, Polk, Wiggs, Zach White (photo…you may be seated)
- Historian Book Award: first place, Bond Elementary; second place, Tom Lea Elementary; and third place, Polk Elementary.
- Lifetime Membership Award: Laura Acosta, Council of PTA Citizenship Chair; Juan Gonzalez, formerly of the Wyndham Hotel; Chris Lopez, marketing director for Peter Piper Pizza; Corrissa Bell, Council of PTA treasurer and 15-year member of PTA; and Laura Soto, Council of PTA vice president.
- PTA Volunteer Hours: first place, Tippin Elementary with 3,500 hours; second place, Polk Elementary with 1,800 hours; and third place, tie Hughey and Cielo Vista Elementary for 1,400 hours.
- Outstanding PTA: first place, Barron Elementary; second place, Western Hills Elementary; and third place, Polk Elementary. These campuses were honored for their effectiveness in promoting the National PTA standards and TX PTA mission and purposes.
