EPISD Votes: Schools help eligible students, adults register to vote
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT — Sept. 25, 2018) -- EPISD schools are using this year’s election as a lesson in civics by promoting voter registration on their campuses among parents and those seniors eligible to cast their ballot this November.
The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 9 for the Nov. 6 mid-term election, which includes the highly contested U.S. Senate race and the District’s Penny Swap Election.
Lincoln Middle School will have a voter registration drive from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the school. The address is 500 Mulberry Ave.
Austin High School also is having a voter registration drive during parent-teacher conferences from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the school’s main lobby , 3500 Memphis.
Here are a few examples of voter registration activities happening in EPISD:
Franklin High School – The campus conducted voter registration drives during lunchtime for students and reached out to the community to register to vote during its homecoming game last week.
Bowie High School – The campus is working with the offices of State Rep. Lina Ortega and State Sen. Jose Rodriguez to conduct voter registration drives on campus.
Andress High School – Teacher Mary Mackay is having a student/staff challenge. The campus is having a contest to see which group can get 100 percent registered of those eligible to vote.
