Transmountain Early College, Milam nominated for National Blue Ribbon Award
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTIRCT -- Feb. 11, 2020) — Transmountain Early College High School and Milam Elemenary School are on the short list to receive National Blue Ribbon School designation — the highest honor awarded by the U.S. Department of Education.
The two schools are among 26 schools in Texas who have been tapped to receive the award. School are nominated based on two factors: exemplary high performance or exemplary high performance in closingn student achievement gaps. The schools will now go through a vigorous vetting process conducted by the Department of Education before winners are announced in September.
"We are thrilled at the possibility of adding even more EPISD schools to the list of National Blue Ribbon campuses," said Superintendent Juan E. Cabrera. "TMECHS and Milam are examples of the tremendous growth we have seen in student achievement and teacher training over the last seven years."
EPISD has 10 schools who have received at least one Blue Ribbon Award since the program was implemented in 1982. Those schools are: Crockett Elementary, Green Elementary, Schuster Elementary, Hillside Elementary, Coldwell Elementary, Douglass Elementary, Transmountain Early College High, Silva Health Magent High, Cielo Vista Elementary and Lamar Elementary.
If awarded, this would be TMECHS' second Blue Ribbon Award and Milam's first. Silva has an unprecedented three Blue Ribbons.
