Aoy P.E. coach wins UTEP mentorship award

Adrian Flores

(AOY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Oct. 7, 2020) — Aoy physical-education teacher Adrian Flores received the John and Gloria Lavis Excellence Award for superior dedication as a mentor to University of Texas at El Paso teaching candidates.

This award, which includes a $2,500 prize, celebrates high-quality mentor relationships and their effect on professional development and career advancement.

The UTEP alum credits the award to the support he receives from both his campus administration and the Heath and Wellness department. He plans to use the funds for PE equipment for his students.

“I could not believe I received this award,” Flores said. “I have been mentoring students by teaching them class routines, transitions, management as help them with their day to day lesson and modifications to the lesson.”
