EPISD Libraries offer Summer Literacy Camps

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT -- May 11, 2021) — Travel the world with our free EPISD Summer Literacy Camps! There’s something for everyone with summer enrichment camps available from elementary to high school students. Summer camps for elementary school-aged children will be in-person and transportation will be provided. Students in middle and high school will be able to select from a wide array of virtual camps. Space is limited. After submitting the online form you will receive a confirmation notification if your spot is secured.

Elementary School
Choose from a wide selection of camps! Two weeks of camps available for current 3rd to 5th-grade students. Classes will be in-person and transportation will be provided (masks will be required, social distancing and COVID protocols will be followed). Week One: June 28-July 2, from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. Week Two: July 5-9 from 12:00 to 3:30 p.m. Register by location below.

• Power of Girls: Girl Power! Girls will explore and interact with literature that shows strong female characters by exploring different genres.

• Storytelling: Read and listen to some great stories, learn the skills of storytelling and be able to tell your own story.

• Game Shows: Let's have some fun with reading! Students will be engaged in reading by pairing it with popular game shows and having friendly competition and fun.

• I Hate to Read: Reading will not be boring anymore as introduce you to excellent books and authors that are fun, exciting, eye-catching, fast-moving and unexpected.

• Poetry in Motion: You will encounter poetry daily through music, movement and more. Reading activities will be fun and interactive!

• Let’s Practice: Students will work on improving reading skills with fun and interesting short stories, poetry and parts of books. Not your normal STAAR practice - we promise!

• I Love to Read: The ultimate reader experience. This camp is for the die-hard fans of reading. Readers will be challenged with fun, exciting interactive activities and reading!

Middle School

• Boys of Color: Explore topics of identity through reading and fun activities. The literature will reflect inclusive stories from a variety of cultures.

• Poetry in Motion: You will encounter poetry daily through music, movement and more. Reading activities will be fun and interactive!

• Power of Girls: Girl Power! Girls will explore and interact with literature that shows strong female characters by exploring different genres.

High School
This summer, take your brain on a virtual adventure! Go on a five-day expedition where you will explore, create and journey through different genres and fun activities. Each day will be something new, unique and unexpected! You won't want to miss it. Two weeks of camps available to current 9th to 12th-grade students. Classes will be virtual.

Mommy & Me
Bring your child with you! Summer reading camp for young mothers of newborns to 5-year-old children. Connect with your child by reading with them and to them. Learn early literacy strategies that will help instill the love of reading. Open only to current EPISD students with children.
