Lamar officially celebrates second Blue Ribbon award
(LAMAR ELEMENTARY—May 26, 2022) – Lamar Elementary School joined with El Paso ISD leadership and Mayor Oscar Lesser Thursday to celebrate the campus’ designation as a National Blue Ribbon School for the second time in six years.
Lamar is among the elite group of schools in El Paso ISD who have achieved Blue Ribbon designation this year. Clendenin Elementary celebrated its Blue-Ribbon status with a similar ceremony in early May while Hawkins Elementary will celebrate next week. In total, EPISD is home to 17 National Blue Ribbon Awards – the most of any school district in the region.
“We have excellent teachers and everyone takes care of you here,” said fifth grader Dominka Hernandez. They make sure you’re doing your work. That’s why were a Blue Ribbon School.”
Lamar is one of the 26 schools in Texas honored as a 2011 Blue Ribbon and among the 325 in the nation.
“Achieving Blue Ribbon designation is no easy task and Lamar Elementary has done it not just once but twice,” said superintendent Diana Sayavedra. “This is testament to the legacy of excellence at Lamar.”
The celebration, which featured entertainment by El Paso High band and cheerleaders, gave the principal Bertha Martinez a chance to thank the Lamar community for their dedication to success.
“What works here is that we’re a team,” she said. “Our teachers are very dedicated. Our students they put out their best effort and parents are always willing to support us. All of us working together has made this happen.”
