El Paso ISD employees have access to free exercise classes at locations throughout the district
(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – Feb. 23, 2023) – Interested in yoga, Zumba, Pound workouts or Pilates? El Paso ISD is offering a variety of free exercise classes at locations throughout the district for employees to get moving.
“These classes are offered to provide EPISD employees with enrichment opportunities outside of work,” said Juan Chavez, assistant director of benefits. “Classes are offered based on teachers and administrator schedules to allow for participation. We want to make sure that we have max participation so we can continue having and growing these classes in the future.”
At Don Haskins PK-8, the new DrumFIT class has been a hit. Teacher Amy Kelley has enjoyed the twice-a-week class and even missed it when it went on a brief hiatus.
“It’s so convenient and amazing to have this offered at my school so that I have no excuse not to better myself,” Kelley said. “We looked forward to it every week. I think it's awesome of EPISD to offer these classes.”
At Andress High School, employees will find instructor Henry Mishaan teaching Zumba. He’s been doing Zumba for 15 years – 10 of those years as an instructor. He’s hoping more employees discover his class and join in the fun.
“I love music, exercise and dance. Zumba has the right combination of all three in it,” he said. “If you want to look good, if you want to feel good, if you want to be happy, then join us in our Zumba classes.”
Employee Benefits also offers a healthy cooking class monthly at Bowie High School, monthly nature walks and art classes. Go to episd.org/healthyliving for locations and class times.
