A Message from Diana Sayavedra

Dear El Paso ISD,

April is nearly here and, with it, comes a busy time for El Paso’s District.

For starters, we mark the nationwide celebration of the Month of the Military Child. It is a time to honor and celebrate the resilience, sacrifice and unique experiences of our military-connected children. With a substantial portion of our students hailing from military families, and with six campuses situated on Fort Bliss grounds, El Paso ISD stands as a beacon of support and inclusion for our military-affiliated students. In 2023, our district was recognized with the most Purple Star campus designations in the region, a testament to our resolute commitment to providing exceptional educational experiences for all our students, including those who bravely serve alongside their families. Thank you for your service!

Our Board of Trustees is devoted to service as well. On Tuesday, April 2, we will take another step toward filling a vacant seat on our board during the District 3 Trustee candidate forum. The community will have the chance to meet three individuals seeking a board-approved appointment to the seat representing parts of Central El Paso. The forum begins at 5:30 p.m. at Austin High School.

April also signals the opening of registration for the 2024-25 academic year. El Paso ISD is unveiling a range of innovative programs including a new Montessori location, the expansion of Kickstart, intramurals and other extracurricular activities, and the introduction of Algebra for All. If you’re researching the best academic programs for your child, use the School Finder feature on the El Paso ISD website to explore specialized programs designed to meet your family’s needs. Start your search here. All these programs are designed to support student success inside and outside the classroom. Begin your child’s academic journey Monday, April 1. Learn more at

This month is also the culmination of tax season, and our El Paso ISD students are here to help you with your annual obligation. Students at Coronado and Irvin high schools are providing free tax-filing services to the community through April 11 at their respective campuses. The students are all volunteers and receive guidance from their instructors and staff members from GECU. Find their service schedules here.

Our El Paso ISD fine arts programs continue to shine. Coronado High School will perform at the UIL Class 6A bi-district one-act play competition this weekend at Eastwood High School. Next week, the El Paso ISD Fine Arts Dance Festival will feature electric performances from the district’s best dancers. Make plans to be at Bowie High School at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 4, for a spectacular event. Watch our social media channels for ticket information.

On the pitch, eight of our boys and girls high school soccer teams remain in the hunt for a state title in Class 4A and 5A. Good luck to Andress (boys and girls), Austin (boys), Bowie (boys and girls), Burges (boys), Chapin (girls) and El Paso (girls) as they begin the area round today. Find the playoff schedule here.

If you want to make a difference in El Paso’s District, you will have your chance next weekend. Make plans to attend the El Paso ISD Job Fair on Saturday, April 6, at the Starlight Event Center. Bring your resume and be ready to interview! Help us inspire and empower our learners to thrive.

Remember that all campuses and district offices are closed Friday, March 29, for our spring holiday. Enjoy the extended weekend with your loved ones, making cherished memories during this special time of renewal and celebration. We’ll be back to work Monday. Only 10 weeks of school left!

It starts with us.
