As we continue to transition back into our schools for face-to-face instruction, the health, welfare and safety of our students, staff and the community remain a top priority for our district. Throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have followed the advice given by our local health authorities regarding actions to help mitigate the spread of the virus. On Monday, August 16, 2021, we were alerted that new guidance was forthcoming from such authorities that would affect the operations of our school district.
On August 17, 2021, the EPISD Board of Trustees authorized the district to impose a districtwide mask mandate and to comply with the City of El Paso Health Authority Order (attached). As such, effective Thursday, August 19, 2021, all district students, employees and visitors shall wear a face covering over the nose and mouth when inside of buildings and district vehicles. This requirement will remain in effect until further notice.
The District will continue its current COVID-19 mitigation strategies and safety protocol measures such as distancing where feasible, providing stationary hand sanitizing units and enhanced cleaning and disinfecting of all buildings and high touch surface areas. We will also continue our collaborative efforts in sponsoring COVID-19 vaccination clinics for individuals ages 12 and above.
Despite the continued challenges the pandemic poses within our community, we all agree that the continued education of our students must remain our top priority.
