(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT -- Sept. 25, 2019) — El Paso’s premiere STEAM conference for teaches is coming up in October, and EPISD teachers are invited to register for what promises to be an out-of-this-world event.
miniCAST 2019, the largest STEAM education event in west Texas and Southern New Mexico, will take place Oct. 18-19, at the University of Texas at El Paso. The theme of this year’s event is “One Giant Leap!” in honor of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
EPISD is one of the sponsors of the event that includes STAAR-aligned workshops, walking tours and field trips, national presenters and renown keynote speakers.
“This is the eighth year that EPISD has sponsored miniCAST and it keeps getting bigger and better,” said Tim Holt, EPISD’s Director of Special Projects. “This event is one where teachers can network with likeminded teachers from throughout the region and hear from speakers that they would likely have to travel in order to experience.”
The event will kick off the night of Friday, Oct. 18, with a “Night at the Museum” networking and keynote speaker event. Then, on Saturday, Oct. 19, the full-day conference with workshops, vendors and speakers will take place at the UTEP Undergraduate Learning Center.
The fee to attend miniCAST is $125 per person, which includes a year membership to the TCEA and STAT organizations. The event is Title I, II D and IV eligible. Campuses can pay for miniCAST registration using local, Title I, Title II or Title IV funds.
