Tom Lea assistant principal named top in the region
(TOM LEA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – Jan. 28, 2022) – Tom Lea Elementary School’s Dr. Elisa Lee was named the Region 19 Assistant Principal of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association.
“Being named TEPSA's AP of the Year for Region 19 was extremely humbling,” Lee said. “When I received the news, it took me a while to process because I never do anything for the accolades. I chose this profession to serve the community and make an impact on students, but I never expect anything in return. I was obviously very honored that a panel of reputable educators would consider me for this distinction.”
Lee began her career in EPISD as a fourth-grade teacher in 2007 at Burleson Elementary. She also taught at Moye Elementary, where she also served as an active learning leader. She was an assistant principal at Whitaker Elementary before joining Tom Lea Elementary more than a year ago.
“Dr. Lee is a dedicated and passionate leader,” said Tom Lea principal Michelle Casillas. “She takes time to build deep and meaningful relationships with students, parents and staff. Dr. Lee jumps in and fills the gaps wherever needed. She is an outstanding assistant principal and deserving of this recognition.”
Lee has a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix, a master’s in education from UTEP and a doctorate in education policy, leadership and management from Walden University.
“As an immigrant who came to this country at the end of 6th grade, having to learn a new language and a new way of life, I am happy that I get to serve students who might need inspiration and encouragement, just as I did,” she said. “I am grateful for every opportunity I have in this profession to make a difference in the lives of children and stir up the motivation to look beyond their scope of vision.”
